Open enrollment for 2027 Marketplace coverage runs from November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027.
The date you enrol decides when coverage starts. Sign up and pay your first premium by December 15 and cover begins January 1; sign up between December 16 and January 15 and it begins February 1. After January 15 you need a qualifying life event.
| If you enrol | Coverage starts |

How It WorksHow open enrollment works
Open enrollment is the one window each year when anyone can buy a Marketplace plan, change plans or drop one, without needing a reason. Outside it you have to qualify through a life event such as moving, marrying, having a child or losing other coverage. Florida uses HealthCare.gov rather than a state exchange, so these federal dates apply here.
If you already have a Marketplace plan and do nothing, you are usually re-enrolled automatically — often into a plan whose price or network has changed.
The Deadline That MattersWhy the December 15 date matters more than the deadline
Most people think of January 15 as the date to remember, but the one that costs money is December 15. Miss it and your coverage cannot begin until February 1, leaving a month uninsured — and a January hospital admission in that gap is paid entirely by you.
Automatic re-enrolment is not a safe default either. Plans change their premiums, deductibles, drug lists and provider networks every January, and the benchmark plan your subsidy is calculated from can change too. Re-checking takes a few minutes and is the only way to know what you are being renewed into.
Next StepsWhat to do next
Estimate your 2027 household income before you shop, because that figure sets your premium tax credit. Then check that your doctors and prescriptions are still in the plan you are considering, and enrol before December 15 so cover starts with the year.
More QuestionsPeople also ask
Can I enrol after January 15?
Only with a Special Enrollment Period, which a qualifying life event opens — moving, marriage, a birth, or losing other coverage.
Do I have to do anything to keep my current plan?
Usually not, but you should. Automatic renewal can move you into a plan with a different price, network or drug list.
Are Medicare and ACA enrollment the same dates?
No. Medicare Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. The Marketplace window is November 1 to January 15. They overlap but are different programmes.
